I had heard good things about Canson heritage (admittedly mostly from Canson), so I got hold of some samples and added them to my paper review. Ultimately I was disappointed with the fast absorption (quick drying time), which did not give me enough time to lay out a complex background wash and go back to do some wet-on-wet. The paper also did not lift particularly well, and my attempts at deliberate blooms tended to bleed out into undefined patches.I did get some decent cauliflower blooms with a bit of overworking, and I must say, it was a joy to glaze with. My conclusion is that this paper, though luxurious to paint on, and definitely a quality stock, does not have quite enough surface sizing for my type of painting. The paper did not lift at all, not even while paint was still wet – once paint came into contact with the paper it stained indelibly, immediately. That is enough to turn me off. Also the colors faded and grow a bit muted after drying out, which always sucks.
