Nathalie and Dakota, 20" x 16" watercolor and gouache on Crescent 114 Extra-Heavy Weight Cold Press Watercolor Board, 2011
Our daughter Nathalie, had desperately wanted a puppy since she was old enough to walk, and in 2009 we finally caved in and bought a Kooikerhondje, an uncommon dutch duck tolling spaniel from a breeder who happened to live near our mother in law’s home in Värnamo, Sweden.
Thus began a love affair between Nathalie and her dog, which she named Dakota (whether inspired by Ms Fanning, the Northwestern State or the tribe of native Americans, I’m still uncertain of). In this loose watercolor with gouache background panel, I show a typically licky engagement between the two!
